Artpost Exhibition & Military Family Day
November 5, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
FREEA day of exhibitions and fun workshops will be available to military and veteran families. The event will be co-sponsored by NCAG and Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, NE.
Join us as Joslyn and NCAG commemorate the contribution of our community’s veteran and military families and debuts an exhibition of artworks created by local veterans working in tandem with professional artists. Free and open to all, the event will feature a panel presentation by members of the Artpost project; a screening and Q&A of Project 22, a documentary raising awareness and hope regarding veterans and suicide; docent-guided tours exploring war and peace in art; hands-on art activities including a collaborative project celebrating freedom; and information about opportunities and community resources available to support military and veteran families. A lively performance of patriotic music by a United States Air Force Heartland of America Band ensemble will cap the day! All galleries will be open for viewing; individuals and families with military ID will receive free entry to the ticketed exhibition Dirt Meridian: Photographs by Andrew Moore. Visit joslyn.org for a complete schedule.
About the Artpost Project:
Artpost is a partnership between Joslyn Art Museum and New Century Art Guild, a non-profit organization that offers professional, recreational, and therapeutic services to veterans and their families through the medium of art. In June, professional artists and veterans were paired in the spirit of friendship and mentorship. Since then, the ten matches have met to share personal narratives and to work together to create art for a culminating exhibition. Choice of art content and the format for collaboration were left open to each pair. Come and see the results – and meet the artists! – at Military Family Day. The Artpost exhibition will remain on view in Joslyn’s community gallery (lower level, Memorial building), through December 31.
